Understanding Camera layout

Knowing where Cameras are installed will make identifying and defining the camera labels easy. Regardless of the vehicle, most of the camera lables will apply to all vehicle types. The example used in this training packet is a Front End Loader (FEL). For more examples of camera layout of vehicle types click here for more information. Below is a diagram of the camera layout 3rd Eye uses for installation.

Camera layout for a Front End Loader Garbage Truck
 Camera 1 = Driver  Camera 5 = Curb-Side Cab
 Camera 2 = Front  Camera 6 = Street-Side Cab
Camera 3 = Backup  Camera 7 = Curb Alley
Camera 4 = Hopper  Camera 8 = Street Alley

  4. Select the camera from the camera selection 4 dropdown (View Camera 7-Other)
    1. The live stream will show on display 4

For more information on garbage truck body type camera layout, click here. From the pictures below, we can identify a hopper camera with the Image. The view typically shows the skyline based on the position of the camera. In some cases, we see trash in the compartment which tells us that’s the hopper. Shown below are sample images of Front-End Loader (FEL) body type and Automatic Side Loader (ASL) body type

Automatic Side Loader (ASL) PSV View

ASL PSV camera could be installed in different angles facing the Side arm. The goal of this camera is to capture the arm lifting the garbage can.

  • Image 1 PSV camera is installed on the left side with the angle of the camera facing right
  • Image 2 PSV camera shows the camera installed on the lower right side with the camera focusing on the bin
    • Some other position we could encounter will be the camera installed somewhere above the arms.

REL commercial PSV camera is located on the rear of the vehicle. In some situations, this camera could double as the backup camera so please pay attention to that. The determination of a backup or PSV camera will be based on the decision of the customer (If it has Verif-Eye enabled, it’s a PSV camera).

The property camera view is placed in the right side of the vehicle. It’s mounted at the top of the middle part of the vehicle which gives it an unobstructed view of the buildings.

  • Image 1 shows the view of the property and the garbage bin. We can tell most of the focus is on the property and not necessarily the bin
    • Sometimes differentiating between property camera and curbside camera might be difficult but, the garbage bin captured shows the camera is installed towards the middle of the vehicle.
