Application Programming Interface (API) | An application programming interface is a way for two or more computer programs to communicate with each other. It is a type of software interface, offering a service to other pieces of software. A document or standard that describes how to build or use such a connection or interface is called an API specification. The API Specification may be communicated using a Swagger or sharing a YAML file. |
Artificial Intelligence (AI) | A way to utilize computers to perform problem solving. Typically by taking multiple examples of a situation and tagging those examples so that the machine can learn to solve similar problems. Example, imaging teaching a child to stop at a stop-sign, this has to be done by showing the child what a stop-sign looks like with enough examples. Once they learn some defining attributes such as shape, color, size, and/or the word Stop they will recognize these Stop Signs in the future. |
Association | A mechanism of linking an end-user to an event. Association involves looking at an event in Verif-Eye and determining who the event was for by using various different calculations. For example if Joe sets out his trash can and the driver then dumps Joes' trash can into the hopper, then association is linking the driver servicing the trash to Joe. |

Automated Front Loader (AFL) | A refuse collection vehicle that is designed for residential garbage. This type of collection mode uses a Curotto-Can to gather garbage from in front of the vehicle. This device attaches to a Front End Loader, allowing for more efficient garbage collection by keeping the drivers eyes forward. Synonym(s): Residential Front End Loader (RFEL) |
Automated Side Loader (ASL) | A refuse collection vehicle that is designed for residential garbage. This type of collection mode uses an arm that is mounted behind the cab, but in front of the body. The arm is typically mounted facing the right, curb-side, direction. This allows for the refuse vehicle to easily grab containers while keeping to the right side of the road. Drivers typically need to look over their shoulders to view the service they are performing. |

For example a profile like 4_Comm_FEL_1 would contain information about how to create a Service Verification Event that is unique for a Heil vehicle. Synonym(s): Profile |
Negative Disconnect | When a cutoff switch on the negative end of the battery. Some benefits of putting the negative side is reducing the potential of sparking as the negative terminal is grounded; although, if installed correctly a positive disconnect mitigates this risk. Synonym(s): Battery Disconnect |
On Demand Video Request | A special type of video request that is done by a Hauler using the 3rd Eye Portal. The On Demand Video Request as a feature allows a user through a map to select a breadcrumb and highlight the breadcrumbs that they would like video for. This information is used to perform preventative analytics for maintenance awareness. By understanding the specialized signals 3rd Eye can identify if a vehicle is in critical need for maintenance or help prevent future maintenance needs by giving warning. For example 3rd Eye uses Heil Body Data to understand when cylinders need to be replaced before they go bad. |
Overloads | In the Waste Industry an overload is when the garbage inside a container extends beyond the rim of the container. Specifically when the lid could not close on the container. If the waste is unevenly distributed and the lid could easily close if sorted properly that is technically not an overload. |

Parcel Association | A type of end-user association based on the location of a parcel in relation to the service point of the vehicle. This type of model looks for the closest parcel boundary point to the GPS point where the service occurred then ties them together as an association. Parcel association does not require a end-user to be identified and can do association with non-customer parcels. Parcel association is designed to inform of the accuracy of Synonym(s): Residential Association |

These notifications are designed to inform the user when the vehicle is running. This feature is useful when trying to understand when a spare is utilized as they would typically be turned off. |
Pneumatic | Containing or operated by air or gas under pressure. Pneumatic systems in a vehicle are typically related to brake lines. These systems use airflow to control the amount of pressure the break disks apply, thus allowing gradient braking. Pneumatics were also used in vehicles typically prior to 2005 for air conditioning controls. |
Pneumatic Pressure Switch | A pressure switch is a simple electromechanical device that is triggered by pressure to turn an electrical circuit on or off. We use these switches to understand if an pneumatic device is turned on. In the case of a Garbage truck, this may be if the system uses a work brake or parking brake. |

Synonym(s): Commercial Association |
Proximity Switch | A proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact. A proximity sensor often emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation, and looks for changes in the field or return signal. In the case of a Garbage truck, proximity switches tend to be used as industrial solutions to understand arm position, hopper blade position, and more. Proximity switches were originally used to capture PSV via a Whitecastle harness spliced into the existing proximity switch; but, it was determined their complexity to maintain led to loss of events. Since that concern the team has switched to inclinometers and alternative devices deemed more reliable as the part can be readily controlled. |
PSV RADAR | A system for detecting the presence, direction, distance, and speed of objects. This is done by sending out pulses of high-frequency electromagnetic waves that are reflected off the object back to the source. When actuated it pulls a cable with a hook tightening the cable with the ultimate objective to lift a container attached on the other end. Typical commercial containers have a hook loop in the back, where this can be attached. When attached and lined up to the back of a rear loader it then allows the container to pivot dumping it's contents into the hopper. For 3rd Eye we would attach a hydraulic pressure switch to the Reeve Cylinder to capture when commercial service occurs. |
Rear End Loader (REL) | Garbage Trucks that have a hopper in the rear of the unit. These trucks are the workhorses for refuse collection in large cities and small towns around the world. Whether the route is commercial or residential, their versatility allow them to be used in most if not all applications.
